Developers See Long-Term Cost Savings in AI Despite High Initial Costs
A recent survey of 615 developers across the US, South Korea, Norway, Finland, and Sweden reveals that 94% expect AI to reduce long-term development costs. Conducted in partnership with The Harris Poll, the study highlights AI's role in alleviating repetitive tasks, with 44% of respondents using AI agents for content optimization and information processing.
Despite optimism, nearly a quarter of developers struggle to quantify ROI due to high upfront integration expenses. The video game industry, meanwhile, faces a crisis as layoffs sweep across major publishers like Embracer Group, Electronic Arts, and Microsoft. Critics accuse management of prioritizing AI investments over workforce stability, exemplified by job cuts at King, the studio behind Candy Crush.
